Air India is making a big upgrade on its Delhi–Melbourne route starting 1 July 2026. Instead of the Boeing 787-8, the airline will now operate the Boeing 777-300ER with refreshed cabin interiors.
Cabin Configuration
- First Class: 8 private suites with leather-upholstered seats, privacy doors, and fully flat beds.
- Business Class: 40 fully flat beds with more space, privacy, and upgraded soft products.
- Economy Class: 280 seats, offering more overall capacity.
This is a major jump compared to the B787-8, which had only 28 Business Class and 241 Economy seats — no First Class at all.
Onboard Enhancements
- Wi-Fi connectivity introduced for the first time on this route.
- Refreshed food & beverage menus blending global cuisine with Indian favorites, plus premium wines and spirits.
- Enhanced inflight entertainment with a richer content library.
Ground Experience
- Premium passengers gain access to the new Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport, featuring upgraded dining, seating, and service.
Connectivity
- Currently 4x weekly non-stop flights between Delhi and Melbourne, increasing to daily service from 1 September 2026.
- Convenient onward connections via Delhi to Europe (London, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Milan, Zurich, etc.).
- Air India also operates non-stop flights between Delhi and Sydney, offering similar connectivity.
This move clearly signals Air India’s intent to position itself as a world-class global carrier, with a stronger premium offering and better consistency across long-haul routes.
