FedEx and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) today broke ground on FedEx’s fully automated air cargo hub, advancing capacity in India’s largest international trade corridor and strengthening its role as an integrated logistics and trade gateway for Western India. Scale & Investment: FedEx is building a 300,000 sq. ft. fully automated air cargo hub with a ₹2,500 crore long-term investment. Strategic Role: Designed as a regional consolidation and redistribution hub, it will connect India directly to Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe, and the U.S. Employment Impact: Expected to generate 6,000+ direct and indirect jobs in logistics, warehousing, transportation, and allied services. Technology: Equipped with automated sorting systems, dimensional scanning, high-speed screening, and dedicated aircraft bays for faster and more reliable cargo handling. Capacity Growth: Initial handling capacity of 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) annually, scaling up to 3.25 MMT in later phases. Economic Boost: Strengthens Western India’s trade corridor, especially for electronics, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, and perishables, while lowering logistics costs for MSMEs. Partnership: Developed in collaboration with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), leveraging NMIA’s multimodal infrastructure and proximity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
