This year, three Khmer artists inspired by nature will create art and lead guest workshops at the remote ecolodge known for forest conservation Program Launch - Inaugural Residency: Khmer artist Im Pesey will be in residence from 21 June to 5 July 2026 at the nature-first tented camp in Botum Sakor National Park, Cambodia. - Residency theme: “Melody of the Forest”. Artistic Focus - Pesey will create works inspired by atmosphere, mood, emotional memory, and coexistence between humans and nature. - Planned mediums: watercolour paintings, ink wash studies, mixed-media sketches, and small/medium-scale paintings. - Not literal documentation of the forest, but expressive visual translations of sensory experiences. Guest Engagement - Each artist will hold at least two workshops with guests, focusing on nature observation and drawing. - Workshops are open to all skill levels. - A dedicated Art Pavilion has been created as an open-air workspace. Program Vision - Initially focused on Cambodia-based artists (painters, illustrators, sculptors, filmmakers, writers, researchers). - Themes: nature, conservation, tranquility. - Inspired by The Long Run’s 4Cs framework (Culture, Conservation, Community, Commerce). - Artists donate at least one artwork created during their stay for permanent display at the camp. Leadership & Partnerships - Marsha Niemeijer, Residency Director: aims to foster dialogue between artists, environment, and guests. - Gallerist art gallery (Phnom Penh) is helping source artists. - Future residencies with two more Khmer artists are in advanced discussion. Support - Artists receive a stipend, accommodation, and full board during their stay. 👉 In essence, the program is designed to merge art, nature, and community, offering guests immersive creative experiences while building a permanent cultural legacy at the camp.
