In view of the rising temperatures and prevailing heatwave conditions in several parts of the country, the Ayush Vertical under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in coordination with the Ministry of Ayush, has issued a comprehensive Public Health Advisory on Extreme Heat/Heatwave for the current summer season. Core Preventive Measures - Hydration: Drink plenty of water, buttermilk, coconut water, lemon-based drinks. - Clothing: Wear light cotton garments. - Timing: Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours. - Diet: Include seasonal fruits and vegetables rich in water and electrolytes (cucumber, watermelon, musk melon, ash gourd, tomatoes). Vulnerable Groups Special care advised for: - Infants and children - Pregnant women - Elderly persons - Outdoor workers - People with chronic illnesses (heart disease, hypertension) Workplaces & Gatherings - Provide shaded rest areas - Schedule hydration breaks - Acclimatization measures for workers - Awareness of heat stress symptoms Danger Signs of Heat Illness - Dizziness, headache, nausea - Altered mental status, seizures, fainting - High body temperature, dehydration - Heatstroke is a medical emergency → Call 108/102 immediately Traditional Wellness Practices - Ayurveda: Cooling drinks like Nimbukaphala Panaka, Amra Prapanaka, Chincha Panaka. - Siddha & Yoga: Cooling refreshments, Sheetali Pranayama, gentle yoga. - Unani: Herbal cooling drinks, sunburn prevention. - Homoeopathy: Precautionary measures during peak heat hours.
