AmaWaterways has officially christened AmaMelodia, its second ship on Colombia’s Magdalena River, marking a major milestone in the company’s expansion beyond Europe. The ceremony took place in Barranquilla in April 2026, with local partners, government representatives, and community leaders present. Second ship in Colombia: Builds on the success of AmaMagdalena, offering intimate itineraries for up to 64 guests. Design: Created with Colombian architect Camilo Restrepo, blending local culture and natural beauty with AmaWaterways’ signature comfort. Cultural significance: A traditional blessing by a local Mamo honored the heritage of the river. Elisabeth Mercado Herrera, the ship’s godmother, is the first woman to become a river cruise captain on the Magdalena River. Itineraries: Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia cruises provide exclusive access to destinations like: - Mompox (colonial architecture, filigree jewelry) - Palenque (UNESCO World Heritage site, first “free town” in the Americas) - Wildlife excursions in La Mojana wetlands - Visits to artisan communities like Santa Bárbara de Pinto Onboard amenities: Sun Deck pool, fitness room, spa, and dining venues with locally inspired cuisine.
