PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor: Travel time reduced to 2.5 hours

The inauguration of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is being framed as a landmark in Uttarakhand’s development journey.

Festive spirit & cultural reverence:
The launch coincided with Baisakhi, Bohag Bihu, and Puthandu. PM Modi paid homage to Devbhoomi’s sacred sites, linking the corridor to the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and Uttarakhand’s spiritual heritage.

Tribute to Ambedkar:
On his birth anniversary, the Prime Minister emphasized constitutional values and highlighted Uttarakhand’s adoption of the Uniform Civil Code.

Infrastructure push:
He contrasted pre-2014 annual infrastructure spending (<₹2 lakh crore) with today’s >₹12 lakh crore, noting ₹2.25 lakh crore worth of projects underway in Uttarakhand alone.

Regional transformation:
The corridor passes through Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur, promising to revitalize these cities with trade, logistics, and warehousing opportunities.

Tourism boost:
Easier access to Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, and the Char Dham circuit. Winter tourism and pilgrimages are surging, with visits to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat rising dramatically.

Environmental balance:
A 12-km elevated wildlife corridor ensures safe passage for elephants and other animals, underscoring eco-sensitive development.

Women’s empowerment:
He urged political consensus to implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, ensuring 33% reservation for women in legislatures by 2029.

Military welfare:
From Garhi Cantonment, he recalled Uttarakhand’s martial legacy and detailed measures like One Rank One Pension, expanded health budgets, and enhanced family benefits.

Strategic Impact
This corridor is more than a road—it’s a multi-dimensional growth engine:
- Cuts travel time to ~2.5 hours.
- Reduces freight costs and fuel consumption.
- Expands markets for farmers and herders.
- Strengthens tourism, trade, and logistics.
- Balances development with ecology and cultural heritage.

It’s being positioned as a symbol of “Viksit Bharat”—progress, nature, and culture moving together.
