Star Alliance has officially opened a new Star Connection Centre (SCC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), reinforcing its commitment to seamless multi‑airline travel. Ninth SCC Worldwide: LAX joins hubs like Brussels, Chicago, Frankfurt, and Toronto, plus baggage‑focused centres in Houston, Newark, Washington Dulles, and San Francisco. Purpose: Designed to support passengers with tight connections between Star Alliance member airlines by proactively identifying those at risk of missing onward flights and expediting their transfer. Scale at LAX: Over 350,000 passengers connect between Star Alliance airlines at LAX each year, making it one of the alliance’s busiest global transfer hubs. How It Works: - Dedicated agents monitor transfer windows using specialized software. - Passengers are met at arrival gates and guided swiftly to their next flight. - Behind the scenes, member airlines coordinate to ensure smooth baggage and passenger transfers. Member Presence at LAX: 16 Star Alliance airlines operate more than 2,000 weekly flights to 80+ destinations across 20+ countries, including Air India, United, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, ANA, and Air Canada. Strategic Context Ambar Franco, VP of Customer Experience at Star Alliance, emphasized that “every moment matters when connections are tight,” highlighting the alliance’s goal of making multi‑airline journeys feel seamless. This move strengthens Star Alliance’s position as the largest global airline alliance, offering over 18,000 daily flights to 1,150+ airports in 190+ countries.
