United to Add 250+ Planes in Next Two Years - Most by Any Airline

United Airlines’ latest fleet expansion plan is one of the most ambitious in aviation history. By April 2028, they expect to take delivery of 250+ new aircraft — more than any other airline in a two‑year period — while simultaneously rolling out premium customer experiences across every cabin.

Fleet Additions
- 47 Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliners with the new Elevated interior (33 configured with extra premium seats).
- 50 Airbus A321neo Coastliners (40 flying by 2028) designed for transcontinental routes with lie‑flat Polaris suites.
- 50 Airbus A321XLRs with 32 premium seats, replacing the 757 fleet on international short/medium‑haul routes.
- 119 Boeing 737 MAX and 18 Airbus A321neos.
- CRJ450 regional jets, offering a private‑jet feel with spacious United First cabins.

Premium Innovations
- United Polaris Studio on the 787‑9: 25% larger lie‑flat suites with privacy doors, ottomans, caviar service, wireless charging, and 27‑inch 4K OLED screens.
- Coastliner A321neo: First narrowbody with United Premium Plus seats, snack bar in Economy, Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, and access to Polaris lounges.
- A321XLR: Privacy‑door Polaris suites, Bluetooth connectivity, and snack bar in Economy.
- CRJ450: Free Starlink Wi‑Fi for MileagePlus members, spacious interiors, and premium trim consistent with mainline aircraft.

Customer Experience Enhancements
- Free Starlink Wi‑Fi for MileagePlus members across dual‑cabin planes by 2027.
- Screens at every seat — over 227,000 screens across 1,200 aircraft within two years.
- Expanded food and wine program with Chef’s Table partnerships.
- Larger bins for rollaboard bags on nearly 570 planes.
- Enhanced app features: real‑time weather, bag tracking with Apple AirTag integration, and United Club capacity updates.

Strategic Takeaway
United is not just adding planes — it’s doubling down on premium differentiation. By blending widebody luxury into narrowbody routes, modernizing regional jets, and investing in tech and amenities for all cabins, United is positioning itself as the leading premium U.S. airline.
