Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has marked two major achievements on Corridor-3 (Madhavaram – SIPCOT) under Phase-2:
Piling Works Completed
- All 3,066 piles between Nehru Nagar and Sholinganallur along Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) are now finished.
- Despite live traffic and geological challenges, the team reached peak productivity of 185 piles in October 2023.
U-Girder Casting Completed
- All 582 precast prestressed U-Girders (30m viaduct girders + 17.5m station girders) have been successfully cast.
- A 35-acre casting yard at Semmancheri enabled peak production of 40 girders in December 2024.
- Senior officials commemorated the final girder casting with a ceremonial concrete pour.
Engineering Highlights
- Stage-wise construction planning ensured smooth traffic flow at critical junctions like Thoraipakkam and Sholinganallur, where metro stations integrate with TNRDC flyovers.
- Specialized equipment and optimized methods overcame hard rock strata challenges at Sholinganallur.
Impact & Commitment
- These milestones bring Corridor-3 closer to timely delivery, promising safer, more reliable, and sustainable urban transit along the OMR corridor.
