In a major step towards promoting clean, sustainable, and efficient urban mobility, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas will be launching an integrated hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in Delhi’s Central Vista area from 15th May 2026. Service Details - Operator: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. - Fleet: 2 hydrogen-fuelled buses provided by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). - Capacity: 35 passengers per bus. - Features: GPS tracking, CCTV monitoring, punctuality and route adherence. Timings & Frequency - Operating days: Monday–Friday (excluding Gazetted Holidays). - Morning service: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM. - Afternoon service: 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM. - Frequency: Every 30 minutes. - One bus runs clockwise, the other anti-clockwise around Central Vista. Route Coverage - Key stops include: Central Secretariat, Seva Teerth Metro Station, Kartavya Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Akbar Road, Baroda House, National Stadium, NGMA, and India Gate. Ticketing - Payment options: National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), UPI, and cash. - Affordable fares: ₹10 and ₹15 (stage-wise). Significance - First-of-its-kind hydrogen-powered public transport service in Delhi. - Supports India’s push for green mobility and clean energy adoption. - Expected to serve as a benchmark for future hydrogen-based transport systems nationwide. This initiative is a fascinating contrast to Chennai Metro’s recent escalator expansion: while CMRL is focused on passenger convenience inside stations, DMRC is pushing boundaries in green last-mile connectivity.
