Cardamom Tented Camp has released its latest Impact Report, showcasing measurable progress in rainforest protection, wildlife recovery, and community engagement through its tourism-led conservation model. Forest Protection: The camp safeguarded 18,073 hectares in Botum Sakor National Park, funding 620 ranger patrols that removed 819 snares, dismantled 15 illegal camps, and confiscated 22 chainsaws. Wildlife Recovery: With 72 camera traps deployed, sightings included the rare marbled cat and critically endangered white-eared night heron, alongside rescues of two Sunda pangolins. Sustainable Operations: Solar energy generation rose to 13,816 kWh, cutting diesel use by 35%. Waste management initiatives processed 882 kg of recyclables, with staff incentives adding income streams. Community Engagement: A pilot waste program in Chi Phat engaged 20 households in waste separation, reducing landfill impact. Plans for artist-in-residence programs in 2026/27 will deepen cultural ties. Local Workforce: The camp employs 18 staff members, mostly from nearby villages, reinforcing its community-first approach. Camp Manager Allan Michaud noted: “We aim to embrace the local community more in the camp’s operations and outreach. We want conservation and local wellbeing to grow together.” This positions Cardamom Tented Camp as a model for nature-based tourism, proving that eco-retreats can deliver both environmental protection and community benefits.
