Cleared for take-off: Etihad Airways becomes first airline to depart from Frankfurt's new Terminal 3

Etihad’s inaugural departure from Frankfurt’s brand-new Terminal 3 was more than just a routine flight—it was a symbolic launch of a new era for the airport. Flight EY 122 to Abu Dhabi lifted off at 10:30 AM with Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, Etihad’s Chief Operations and Guest Officer, personally in command. The ribbon-cutting with Fraport’s CTO Dr. Pierre Dominique Prümm and the surprise upgrade for a holidaying couple added a celebratory touch to the morning.

Etihad, which has flown to Frankfurt since 2005, now operates two daily Boeing 787 Dreamliner services on the route. Both the airline and Fraport emphasized how this milestone strengthens their partnership and sets a new benchmark for passenger comfort.
