The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched a major mid-life refurbishment program for its Blue Line trains, aimed at boosting safety, reliability, and passenger comfort. Scope of the Refurbishment - Covers 70 trains across the Red and Blue lines. - Already completed: 12 trains in Phase 1 and 18 trains in Phase 2. - Ongoing: 9 trains currently being refurbished. - Upcoming: 22 Blue Line trains to be upgraded by November 2027. - These trains, inducted between 2002–2007, have served for nearly 19–24 years. Upgrades & Modernization - Interiors: Repainting of passenger areas and driver cabins to restore aesthetics. - Systems: Electrical panels upgraded for better performance. - Passenger Information: New IP-based PA-PIS, CCTV, LCD dynamic route maps, and display screens for real-time updates. - Safety: Fire detection systems with smoke and heat detectors, advanced relays, and MCBs. - Convenience: Mobile and laptop charging points in all coaches. - Future-proofing: New jumper cables and connectors to support upgraded and upcoming systems. Leadership & Vision - Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD of DMRC, inspected the first refurbished train of Phase 3 before it entered service. - Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director (Corporate Communications) emphasized DMRC’s commitment to modernization and passenger-friendly services. This initiative ensures that older trains match the standards of newer rolling stock, keeping Delhi Metro aligned with global benchmarks in urban transit.
