With the inauguration of two new Delhi Metro sections, one each on Pink and Magenta Line last Sunday (8th March), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) continues to maintain its position as India’s largest operational Metrorail network, playing a pivotal role in the country’s rapidly expanding urban rail ecosystem. Delhi Metro Milestones (2025) - Passenger Journeys – Handled 235.8 crore journeys in 2025 (≈64.6 lakh daily), surpassing 2024’s 223.5 crore. - Peak Records – Highest single-day ridership reached 81.87 lakh on 8 August 2025. - Network Scale – Delhi-NCR metro spans 416 km with 303 stations, forming over one-third of India’s total metro network. - Train Operations – Runs 343 trains (2,368 coaches) with ~4,508 trips daily, covering 1.4 lakh km. - Punctuality – Maintains an exceptional 99.9% on-time performance. National & Global Context - India now has the third-largest metro network globally, with 1,143 km across 26 cities. - Delhi Metro alone accounts for 55% of all metro journeys in India. - It also operates one of the world’s largest driverless metro systems, spanning 121 km across the Pink and Magenta Lines, with 80 driverless trains. Future Expansion - Phase-IV corridors are under construction to further strengthen connectivity. - 52 new trains are being procured, with 18 already delivered.
