Mumbai International Airport commissioned a new taxiway M. Key Development - Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has commissioned a new parallel Taxiway M on December 25, 2025. - Purpose: To significantly improve flight departure capacity during peak periods at one of the world’s busiest single-runway airports. Operational Benefits - Enables more efficient departure sequencing: aircraft can move onto the runway and take off promptly. - Allows planes to queue on the taxiway while awaiting clearance, reducing congestion. - Provides an alternate routing option during planned maintenance or unforeseen disruptions. - Enhances airside efficiency and resilience. Environmental Impact - Shorter taxi distances and reduced ground holding times lead to: - Lower fuel consumption - Reduced carbon emissions Context - CSMIA (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) handles 950+ aircraft movements daily (arrivals and departures). - Sustained traffic levels and limited maintenance windows highlighted the need for this additional parallel taxiway.
