The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Council (ISTC) have signed a Training Partnership Agreement in December 2025, marking a major step in advancing sustainability training across Indonesia. Collaboration: ISTC, established by Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, will act as an operating and promotional partner for GSTC’s Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP). Courses Offered: Training will include the Sustainable Tourism Course, Sustainable Hospitality Course, Tour Operator Course, and Destination Stewardship Course, all delivered by GSTC-authorized trainers within ISTC. Accessibility: Programs will be available onsite, online, and hybrid, ensuring broad reach for tourism professionals and students. Leadership Voices: - Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu (Chair of ISTC) emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to sharing sustainability principles widely. - Dr. Frans Teguh (Secretary of ISTC) highlighted the role of GSTC Standards in empowering tourism leaders and local champions. Localization: ISTC will translate GSTC Standards and course materials into Bahasa Indonesia, making global sustainability principles more practical and accessible at the local level. Global Context: GSTC collaborates with partner organizations worldwide to promote sustainable tourism knowledge and practices, and this agreement strengthens Indonesia’s role in that mission. Why It Matters This partnership is a strategic move for Indonesia’s tourism sector, ensuring that sustainability isn’t just a policy goal but a practical skillset embedded in the industry. It positions Indonesia as a leader in sustainable tourism education in Asia.
