The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced Tamil Nadu’s first Multi‑Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Paranur Toll Plaza on the Tambaram–Tindivanam section of NH‑179B.
Key Highlights
- Barrierless Tolling: Vehicles pass through without stopping, ensuring seamless travel.
- Technology: Uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag for efficient toll operations.
Benefits:
- Reduced human intervention in toll collection
- Lower congestion and faster travel times
- Improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions
- Transparent and cost‑effective tolling ecosystem
National Rollout
Tamil Nadu joins other states where MLFF has already been implemented, including:
- Gujarat: Chorayasi Toll Plaza (Surat–Bharuch, NH‑48)
- Delhi‑NCR: Mundka‑Bakkarwala Toll Plaza (UER‑II)
- Rajasthan: Shahjahanpur, Daulatpura, Manoharpura Toll Plazas (Delhi–Jaipur, NH‑48)
- Haryana: Gharaunda Toll Plaza (Panipat–Jalandhar, NH‑44)
User Requirement
To enjoy seamless MLFF travel, highway users must keep their FASTag functional with sufficient balance — otherwise, they may receive an Electronic Notice (E‑Notice).
This rollout is a transformational shift in India’s tolling ecosystem, aligning with the government’s vision of barrier‑free, citizen‑centric travel.
