Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a consultancy agreement for
the “Selection of Project Management Company (PMC) for Chennai Metro Rail Phase
1 Network Capacity Enhancement Project”.
Parties involved:
- Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL)
- AECOM India Pvt. Ltd. (lead) in Joint Venture with Nippon Koei India Pvt. Ltd.
Contract value:
₹35.97 crore (inclusive of all taxes and duties).
Signing:
- On behalf of CMRL – Thiru. Manoj Goyal, Director (Systems & Operations).
- On behalf of JV – Thiru. Sunil Kumar Reddy Kasa (Regional Director) and Thiru. Satish Lal Suneja (Associate Director).
- Witnessed by senior officials including Thiru. K. Mani Venkata Kumar, Thiru. S. Ramasubbu, and Thiru. C. Balamurugan.
Project Scope
- Objective: Enhance operational capacity of Phase 1 network to meet rising ridership demand.
- Coverage: Civil, Track, Electrical & Mechanical works.
Services:
- Project Management Consultancy (PMC)
- Detailed design documents
- Basic design for system packages
- Preparation of bid documents and tender assistance
- Construction supervision
- Technical assistance
Role of PMC (AECOM–Nippon Koei JV)
- Planning, coordination, and management of the project.
- Monitoring execution across multiple components.
- Ensuring uninterrupted, safe, and reliable metro services during upgrades.
This agreement signals a major step in future-proofing Chennai Metro’s Phase 1 network, ensuring it can handle growing passenger volumes while maintaining service quality.
