QantasLink’s first Embraer E190 arrives in Perth
QantasLink’s first Embraer E190, VH-E9A, touched down in Perth today, marking a major milestone in the airline’s fleet renewal program for its Western Australian resources charter operations.
Journey:
The aircraft flew 20 hours from Norwich, UK, with stops in Bulgaria, Tajikistan, India, Malaysia, and Broome before landing in Perth.
Fleet renewal:
It’s the first of up to 14 E190s that will progressively replace the long‑serving F100 fleet, offering better reliability, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort.
Service entry:
The first E190 will begin commercial service in January 2027.
Cabin upgrades:
Each jet will be refreshed with Wi‑Fi, new seats with adjustable headrests, USB‑A/C charging, personal device holders, and the new Qantas Economy Plus section for extra legroom and priority boarding.
Training investment:
Around 70 pilots, crew, and engineers will undergo 18,000 hours of training this year, with more than 600 staff expected to be trained as the fleet grows.
Legacy:
The F100s have been the backbone of WA operations for nearly two decades. The new E190 fleet will continue that tradition, with VH‑E9A named Exmouth.
Qantas statement:
COO Trevor Worgan highlighted that the E190s are quieter, more fuel‑efficient, and capable of flying further than the F100, opening up new opportunities for regional WA and the resources sector.
