NHAI Extends ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ till 30th June 2027

With an objective to further enhance cleanliness and user experience at toilet facilities along the National Highways, NHAI has extended its citizen-centric initiative, the ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ till 30th June 2027.

The Initiative
- NHAI has extended the Clean Toilet Picture Challenge until 30 June 2027.
- Objective: improve cleanliness and user experience at toilet facilities along National Highways.
- Launched in September 2025, it encourages commuters to report unclean toilets at toll plazas.

How It Works
- Users upload geo-tagged, time-stamped photos of unclean toilets via the Rajmargyatra App.
- Required details: name, location, vehicle registration number (VRN), and mobile number.
- Each eligible VRN gets a ₹1,000 FASTag recharge (credited directly to the linked VRN).
- One reward per VRN for the entire scheme period.
- AI-assisted screening + manual validation ensures authenticity.

Impact So Far
- In 2026, 429 commuters received rewards for reporting unclean toilets.
- The scheme has boosted citizen participation and accountability in highway sanitation.

Scope & Rules
- Applicable only to toilets under NHAI’s jurisdiction (not fuel stations, dhabas, or other public facilities).
- If multiple reports are submitted for the same facility on the same day, only the first valid submission is rewarded.
- Rewards are non-transferable and cannot be claimed in cash.

Broader Significance
- Reinforces NHAI’s commitment to citizen-centric services.
- Promotes a culture of shared responsibility for hygiene and cleanliness.
- Enhances transparency by linking rewards directly to FASTag accounts.

This scheme cleverly ties digital participation with real-world improvements, making commuters partners in maintaining highway infrastructure.
