Air India selects new JFK terminal 6 for future operations

JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the company selected by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to build and operate John F. Kennedy International Airport’s new world-class Terminal 6 (JFK T6), and Air India, India’s leading global airline, today announced that the airline has chosen T6 for its operations beginning in 2028.

Timeline:
Air India will shift from Terminal 4 to Terminal 6 in 2028.

Alliance Alignment:
T6 will host 16 international carriers, including Star Alliance members (Air Canada, ANA, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal) plus Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Condor, JetBlue, Kuwait Airways, Icelandair, and Norse Atlantic.

Connectivity:
This co-location strengthens Air India’s codeshare and interline partnerships, enabling same-terminal connections across the Americas.

Premium Experience:
Air India will open its flagship Maharaja Lounge at JFK T6 — a 9,100 sq. ft. space offering Indian hospitality and modern amenities.

Infrastructure:
T6 will feature 10 gates (9 widebody-capable), automated baggage handling, seamless link to Terminal 5, shared customs facilities, and sustainability-driven design (solar power, all-electric ground support).

Transformation Context:
Part of JFK’s $19B redevelopment, which includes new terminals, expanded facilities, and a simplified roadway network.

Strategic Significance
This move reflects Air India’s broader transformation since privatization in 2022 — fleet renewal (record 600 aircraft orders), new cabin products, digital upgrades, and enhanced customer experience. For JFK travelers, it means shorter walks, modern amenities, and smoother connections with partner airlines.
