The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken another big step in building a Digital India by enhancing its RajmargYatra mobile app with two new citizen-centric features:
Digital Local Passes
- Eligible residents within 20 km of a toll plaza can now purchase monthly local passes directly through the app.
- First rollout: Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza (UER-II, Delhi), with nationwide expansion planned.
- Integration with DigiLocker and VAHAN ensures verified address, vehicle, and FASTag details.
- GIS-based verification eliminates paperwork and speeds up approvals.
MargMitra Help Centre
- An intelligent, multilingual digital assistant built into the app.
- Supports 22 Indian languages for queries, feedback, and grievances.
- Provides instant help on FASTag recharge, refunds, KYC, pass services, and more.
- Enables lodging complaints, tracking resolution progress, filing appeals, and reporting road safety concerns (e.g., stalled vehicles, encroachments).
Why It Matters
- Convenience: No more physical visits to toll plazas for local passes.
- Transparency: Automated verification reduces errors and manual intervention.
- Efficiency: Faster grievance redressal with real-time complaint tracking.
- Scale: Builds on the success of 80 lakh Annual Passes already sold via the app.
This initiative reflects NHAI’s commitment to not just building highways but also creating a digital ecosystem that makes travel safer, smarter, and more citizen-friendly.
