Batik Air’s inaugural direct Airbus A330 service between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney was celebrated with ceremonies in both cities, underscoring the airline’s growing long-haul ambitions and Malaysia’s tourism push under the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.
Sydney Arrival:
The first flight from Kuala Lumpur was greeted with a ceremonial water salute at Sydney Airport. Passengers on the return journey received commemorative goodie bags at a send-off event hosted by Tourism Malaysia (Sydney).
Kuala Lumpur Reception:
The inaugural Sydney–Kuala Lumpur flight was welcomed with a festive reception featuring VM2026 mascots Wira and Manja, alongside Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad officials.
Enhanced Connectivity:
The new nonstop service complements Batik Air’s existing Kuala Lumpur–Sydney route via Bali, offering travelers more choice, capacity, and schedule flexibility.
Tourism Growth:
Australia remains a key source market for Malaysia, with over 213,000 Australian visitors recorded by May 2026, a 7.2% increase year-on-year.
Regional Hub Advantage:
Kuala Lumpur continues to serve as a strategic hub, enabling seamless onward connections to destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok, Tokyo, and Shanghai.
Leadership Remarks:
CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy emphasized that the direct service enhances convenience and connectivity, while Tourism Malaysia’s Director General highlighted its role in achieving VM2026 targets.
This new route not only strengthens Malaysia–Australia ties but also positions Batik Air as a competitive player in the long-haul market, tapping into strong demand across tourism, education, and business travel.
