Air India, India’s leading global airline, today announced the opening of its newest signature lounge at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), called ‘The Maharaja Lounge’. Design & Experience - Interiors blend modern luxury with Indian aesthetics, using champagne, ivory, and deep red hues. - Brand motifs like the ‘Vista’ pattern are integrated throughout. - Features curated art installations, including pieces made from upcycled aircraft components. - Conceptualized by Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), a global hospitality design firm. Signature Zones - Aviator’s Bar: Speakeasy-style, offering premium wines, whiskies, and cocktails (e.g., the Maharaja Manhattan). - Tarmac View: Dining and seating areas overlooking aircraft movements. - Social Zone: Designed for community and conversation, with flexible seating. - Dining Area: Indian and international cuisine, live cooking stations, hot/cold buffets. - Private Zone: A serene, discreet space for First Class travelers. Strategic Significance - Builds on the flagship lounge launched in Delhi, positioning this as the second in a series of signature lounges. - Reinforces Air India’s commitment to North America, a key pillar of its network. - Part of the airline’s broader transformation to deliver a world-class premium travel experience. This is a striking contrast to Europe’s aviation stagnation: while EU carriers are bogged down by regulation and costs, Indian airlines are simultaneously expanding fleets (Akasa Air) and elevating premium services (Air India).
