Air India has just marked a major milestone in its transformation journey with the unveiling of its first retrofitted Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (VT-ANT). The aircraft underwent a complete nose-to-tail refresh at Boeing’s Modification Center in California, followed by a striking new livery application in San Bernardino. Three-Class Configuration: Transitioned from a two-class layout to a modern three-class cabin. Business Class: 20 private suites in a 1-2-1 layout, each with sliding doors, direct aisle access, fully flat 79-inch beds, 17-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreens, and multiple charging options. Premium Economy: 25 seats in a 2-3-2 layout, offering 38-inch pitch, 7-inch recline, calf and leg rests, 13.3-inch 4K QLED HDR screens, and fast charging ports. Economy Class: 205 ergonomically designed seats in a 3-3-3 layout, with 31/32-inch pitch, 11.6-inch 4K QLED HDR screens, and charging ports. Cabin Enhancements: New carpets, curtains, wall laminates, refreshed lavatories, overhauled galleys, and upgraded cabin service systems. Entertainment: All seats equipped with Thales’ AVANT Up inflight entertainment system. Strategic Impact - Part of a US$400 million investment to modernize Air India’s legacy fleet. - 25 additional B787s will be retrofitted by 2027, followed by 13 B777-300ERs. - Enhances passenger experience across more than 300 weekly flights to destinations in the UK, Europe, and Australia. CEO Campbell Wilson described the retrofit as “a shining beacon of the new Air India”, underscoring the airline’s commitment to becoming a premium global carrier.
