The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) proudly observed World Public Transport Day 2026, in line with the global mandate received from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). UITP, founded in 1885, is a worldwide body dedicated to shaping policy and raising awareness about the importance of public transport. Occasion: Observed on April 17, 2026, in line with the global mandate from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). Leadership Presence: DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar, Dr. Shalini Singh (President, DMRC Ladies Welfare Organisation), and Ms. Rupa Nandy (Head of UITP India) attended. Children’s Engagement: About 100 children from NGO Jan Parivartan enjoyed a special train ride to learn about the benefits of public transport. Creative Activities: - Drawing competition on the theme “Public Transport for a Better Tomorrow”. - Street plays by students from Jesus and Mary College and Lady Hardinge Medical College, emphasizing sustainable travel. Awareness Campaign - Digital banners displayed across metro stations. - Announcements made system‑wide to remind commuters of their role in reducing congestion, pollution, and carbon emissions. Significance DMRC used this occasion to reaffirm its commitment to UITP’s vision of sustainable mobility. By involving children, students, and commuters, the initiative aimed to inspire citizens to embrace public transport as a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable mode of travel.
