Indian Institute of Heritage is celebrating the World Heritage Day to supplement the global cause of saving the human heritage. As a higher education Institute dealing with courses on various facets of heritage, the Institute proudly announces a week-long celebration on World Heritage Day. Purpose - The Institute is marking World Heritage Day (International Day for Monuments and Sites) with a week-long programme to reinforce the global cause of heritage preservation. - The day was proposed by ICOMOS in 1982 and adopted by UNESCO in 1983, and has since been celebrated worldwide. Key Programmes 1. Special Talks (18 April 2026) - Dr. Shovana Narayan, renowned Kathak exponent: “Kathak – Heritage in Motion: Narratives of Time and Tradition”. - Dr. Sanjay Kumar Manjul, Archaeological Survey of India: “New Evidences of Indus-Saraswati Culture: Excavation at Rakhigarhi”. - Chaired by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Vice-Chancellor, IIH. 2. Workshops on Textiles (17 & 22 April 2026) - Theme: “From Collection to Museum: Our Textiles, Our Stories”. - Locations: IIH Noida campus and National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy. - Aim: Bridge the gap between cultural institutions and underserved communities, transforming museum experiences into personal narratives. - Phase I (17 April): Technical and storytelling aspects of India’s textile heritage. - Phase II (22 April): Direct engagement with master craftspeople and historical exhibits. 3. Online Lecture Series – Heritage Dialogues - Organised by the Department of Palaeography, Epigraphy & Numismatics. - First lecture: 18 April 2026, 4:00 pm, by Dr. T.S. Ravishankar, former Director, Epigraphy Branch, ASI. Core Mission - Promote inclusive education by engaging diverse and underserved communities. - Empower participants to see their own histories reflected in national heritage. - Highlight museums as guardians of identity, ensuring stories behind textiles and artifacts are preserved. This celebration blends performing arts, archaeology, textiles, and inclusive education, making heritage accessible and meaningful to a wider audience.
