Indian Railways Utilises Over 80 Percent of CAPEX in First Three Quarters of Current Fiscal

Indian Railways is delivering faster, safer, and world-class rail travel at affordable cost across India by transforming itself into a future-ready organisation aligned with the vision of a modern and connected nation.

CAPEX Utilisation (FY 2025–26, up to Dec 2025)
- Total Allocation (GBS): ₹2,52,200 crore
- Utilised: ₹2,03,138 crore (80.54%)
- Year-on-Year Growth: 6.54% higher than same period in Dec 2024.

Key Spending Areas
- Safety Works: 84% of allocated funds already utilised.
- Capacity Augmentation: ₹76,048 crore spent out of ₹1,09,238 crore (≈69%).
- Passenger Amenities: ₹9,575 crore spent (≈80% utilisation).
- Infrastructure Modernisation: Focus on electrification, new lines, gauge conversion, track doubling, and metropolitan transport systems.

Outcomes of Consistent CAPEX
- 164 Vande Bharat train services now operational.
- 30 Amrit Bharat train services introduced.
- Kavach automatic train protection system implemented.
- 99% electrification of the broad-gauge network achieved.
- Enhanced speed, safety, and passenger comfort while keeping fares affordable.

Looking Ahead
- Vande Bharat Sleeper trains set for inauguration soon.
- Ministry of Railways expects FY 2025–26 targets to be fully achieved, with infrastructural works progressing expeditiously.
