UN Tourism has strengthened its support for Asia and Pacific Member States by advancing data-focused capacity building initiatives. Regional Workshop: - Held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam (18–20 November 2025). - Brought together 100+ participants from 11 UN Tourism Member States. - Delegates included National Tourism Authorities, National Statistics Offices, and international experts. Focus Areas: - Application of the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (MST). - Use of tools like the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) and the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA). - Case studies and exercises on: - Tourism employment measurement - Host community perceptions - Environmental impacts of tourism Objectives: - Strengthen institutional coordination between tourism and statistics authorities. - Improve tourism data governance. - Promote integrated information systems for evidence-based policymaking and destination management. Outcome: - Reinforced regional cooperation and peer learning. - Reaffirmed commitment to advancing sustainable and resilient tourism development across Asia and the Pacific. Significance This initiative highlights UN Tourism’s role in ensuring that reliable, integrated, and policy-relevant tourism data becomes the foundation for sustainable growth. By empowering countries with advanced statistical tools and governance practices, the region is better positioned to balance economic, social, and environmental dimensions of tourism.
