Contributor Guidelines

designed to help writers and photographers travel responsibly and contribute meaningfully in the face of the global climate crisis:

Travel Responsibly
- Minimize flights when possible.
- Offset carbon emissions for necessary flights.
- Preference given to contributors already in the region they’re covering.

Choose Sustainable Transport
- Favor human-powered travel (hiking, cycling, kayaking).
- Use public transport (buses, trains) when safe and practical.
- Safety and accessibility are prioritized—no pressure to take risks.

Stay Sustainably
- Opt for carbon-neutral or homestay accommodations.
- Homestays can reduce carbon footprint by up to 80%.
- Safety and personal needs come first.

Respect Nature
- Treat wild places and creatures with deep care and respect.
- Approach nature as you would your own family.

Support Local & Indigenous Communities
- Buy locally-produced goods and services.
- Travel with Indigenous or First Nations-owned operators when appropriate.

Avoid Overtourism
- Shift focus from overcrowded destinations.
- Highlight community-based tourism and locally-led solutions.

Commit to Broader Change
- Sign up for Tourism Declares and the Glasgow Declaration.
- Consider ethical choices in banking, pensions, and energy providers.

Tip Generously
- Tip well when you can, and fairly when you can’t.
- A simple but powerful way to show appreciation.
