The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will introduce 20 additional weekday train trips across its network starting 22 October 2026.
The move follows the implementation of GRAP-I (Graded Response Action Plan) in Delhi to address rising pollution levels.
The additional services aim to encourage more commuters to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
Anti-Pollution Measures at Construction Sites
-
DMRC will intensify anti-pollution drives at its construction sites and surrounding areas across Delhi.
-
Special efforts will be made to reduce dust levels within construction zones.
-
Road dust will be removed from surrounding roads under DMRC's jurisdiction.
-
Garbage accumulated on footpaths and road medians will be cleared regularly.
Construction Site Monitoring
-
DMRC engineers will conduct detailed inspections of construction sites and nearby roads.
-
All construction materials will be checked to ensure they are properly covered.
-
Wheel-wash facilities for vehicles exiting construction sites will be inspected to ensure proper functioning.
Road Maintenance Efforts
-
Approximately 31 kilometres of roads are currently under DMRC's temporary jurisdiction for Metro construction activities.
-
Most of these roads have already been repaired by DMRC to minimize their contribution to pollution levels.
-
The maintenance work is intended to reduce dust generation and improve road conditions.
Deployment of Anti-Smog Infrastructure
-
More than 250 anti-smog and mist guns have been installed at DMRC construction sites, stations, and office buildings.
-
The systems are being used to suppress dust and improve air quality around Metro infrastructure.
Environmental Compliance
-
DMRC's Environment Department is conducting daily inspections across project sites.
-
These inspections are aimed at ensuring strict compliance with all environmental and pollution-control norms.
Objective
-
The combined measures are intended to support Delhi's efforts to combat air pollution while promoting sustainable urban mobility through increased use of the Metro network.
