Government to promote Ayush-based tourism and medical value travel

The Government has adopted a comprehensive strategy to promote Ayush-based tourism in the country. The Ministry of Tourism has formulated a National Strategy and Roadmap for Medical and Wellness Tourism in consultation with other Ministries including Ministry of Ayush.

Key Policy & Strategic Initiatives
- National Strategy & Roadmap for Medical & Wellness Tourism formulated with Ministry of Ayush and other stakeholders.
- Ayush Visa (M-3) and Ayush Attendant Visa (M-4) introduced in July 2023 to facilitate foreign nationals seeking traditional medicine treatments.
- Ayush Quality Mark launched in December 2025 to harmonize standards globally, ensuring safety, efficacy, and quality of Ayush products and services.
- Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) published for all Ayush disciplines to support evidence-based clinical practice.

Education & Accreditation
- International Ayush Fellowship/Scholarship Program offers scholarships to foreign students in recognized Ayush institutions.
- Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB) established in 2019 to accredit Ayurveda training courses in India and abroad.

Partnerships & Promotion
- MoU with ITDC to jointly promote Medical Value Travel (MVT) in Ayurveda and other traditional systems.
- Ayush-based MVT Summits: West Zone (Mumbai, Sept 2024) and South Zone (Chennai, May 2025).
- International Cooperation (IC) Scheme:
- 27 country-to-country MoUs
- 16 Ayush Chair MoUs
- 57 institute-to-institute MoUs

Global Engagement
- Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine (Dec 2025, New Delhi):
- Co-hosted by India and WHO.
- Ministry of Ayush held 16 bilateral meetings to strengthen collaboration, regulatory alignment, and international cooperation.

Tourism & Wellness Integration
- Ayush-based tourism positioned as a global hub for traditional medicine and wellness.
- Focus on Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy as part of India’s medical value travel offering.
- Promotion through international fairs, roadshows, and collaborations with Indian Missions abroad.

This strategy combines policy, infrastructure, education, global partnerships, and branding to make India a leading destination for Ayush-based medical tourism.
