The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has launched a global campaign to identify the 7 Contemporary Wonders of the World — landmarks built since 1801 that have had the greatest impact on tourism, communities, and economic development.
Purpose:
Celebrate modern landmarks that redefine destinations and showcase how tourism assets drive jobs, investment, and cultural identity.
Examples:
Eiffel Tower (Paris), Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), Grand Egyptian Museum (Giza).
Criteria:
Tourism contribution, economic impact, community value, destination development, cultural and architectural significance.
Timeline:
- 7 July 2026: Nominations open worldwide
- 7 Jan 2027: 70 nominees announced, public voting begins
- 7 Apr 2027: Shortlist narrowed to 30 finalists
- 7 Jul 2027: Final 7 Contemporary Wonders revealed
