The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has brought together aviation leaders in Rio de Janeiro for its 82nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the World Air Transport Summit (WATS), running from June 6–8, 2026. This is the first time in 27 years that the AGM is being held in South America, with LATAM Airlines Group serving as the host airline. Around 1,500 industry leaders, government officials, and media representatives are expected to attend. Brazil’s aviation growth: In 2025, Brazil saw an 11.5% increase in passenger demand, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Domestic traffic exceeded 100 million passengers, while international demand grew 17% compared to 2024. Economic impact: Aviation supports 2.1% of Brazil’s GDP, generating USD 46.4 billion and supporting 1.9 million jobs across the wider aviation value chain. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): Brazil’s potential for SAF production is a major focus, with discussions on closing the gap between production capacity and airline needs.
