Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, today announced that the 2nd BRICS Culture Working Group (CWG) Meeting will be held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on 4th - 5th June 2026. Event Details - Dates: 4–5 June 2026 - Venue: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh - Announced by: Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture - Theme (India’s BRICS 2026 Chairship): “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” Priority Areas for Discussion 1. Creative Economy & Technology - Cultural and creative industries - Copyright and Artificial Intelligence 2. Cultural Heritage Protection - Safeguarding heritage - Return of cultural property 3. Culture & Sustainability - Role of culture in climate action - Post-2030 sustainable development agenda India’s Role - Hosted BRICS Ministers of Culture meetings in Goa (2016) and New Delhi (2021). - Continues to lead strategic cultural cooperation during its 2026 Chairship. - Builds on the 2015 BRICS Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Culture, expanding collaboration across heritage, creative industries, films, museums, archives, and digital ecosystems. This meeting positions Varanasi—India’s cultural capital—as a symbolic hub for dialogue on heritage, innovation, and sustainability.
