The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced the launch of the World Maintenance & Engineering Symposium (WMES), set to take place in Madrid, Spain, on 24–25 June 2026. Themed “Reviving the Supply Chain”, the event will focus on tackling supply chain instability, engine maintenance bottlenecks, and aircraft delivery delays that are currently driving up costs and reducing efficiency. Industry Challenges Addressed: Supply chain failures, part availability, maintenance planning, and cost management. Two Main Tracks: - Supply Chain Track: Aircraft and engine delivery delays, part shortages, and cost management. - Operational Efficiency Track: AI-driven maintenance, predictive systems, digital records, and reliability improvements. Notable Speakers: Willie Walsh (IATA Director General), Andre Schneider (Airbus), Aman Sandhu (Boeing), Nick Careen (IATA), Stuart Fox (IATA). Special Sessions: Used Serviceable Materials, Disabled Aircraft Removal, and Workforce of the Future. Why It Matters This symposium is designed to bring together global aviation technical operations professionals and industry leaders to explore emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and best practices shaping the future of aircraft maintenance and engineering.
