Delhi Metro to run extra train trips to encourage more people to use metro than private vehicles

Recognizing the critical role of mass transit in ensuring energy security, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability in the extant scenario, DMRC is undertaking a series of strategic initiatives to facilitate greater adoption of metro services while enhancing commuter convenience, safety, and accessibility.

Extra Train Trips
- Starting 18 May 2026, DMRC will run 24 additional train trips every Monday using 6 extra trains.
- Extra trips may also be added on other days depending on demand.
- Goal: encourage commuters to shift from private vehicles to metro services.

Enhanced Security & Passenger Flow
- More security personnel deployed.
- Extra ticketing counters opened.
- Spare DFMDs (metal detectors) and baggage scanners activated.
- Reduced waiting times at frisking points.
- Smoother passenger movement during peak hours.

Seamless Connectivity
- Direct integration with railway stations, ISBTs, airports, RRTS, Noida Metro, and Rapid Metro Gurgaon.
- Connects commercial hubs, government offices, educational institutions, and cultural landmarks across Delhi‑NCR.

Last-Mile Solutions
- Network of 160 metro stations offering:
- E‑autos, E‑rickshaws, bike taxis, cab aggregators, bicycle rentals
- Smart journey planning via DMRC Saarthi App
- Hydrogen bus service launched in Central Vista area with IOCL support.
- 1500 Devi buses operating at 52 stations, with more being added.

Park & Ride
- Parking facilities at 126 metro stations, enabling commuters to park vehicles and continue journeys by metro.

Digital Ticketing
- QR code tickets, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), WhatsApp ticketing.
- Integrations with Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon, IRCTC, ONDC.
- Saarthi App offers one‑stop booking for metro + last‑mile transport.

Sustainability Commitment
- Focus on reducing fuel dependency, promoting green mobility, and strengthening economic resilience.
- DMRC positions itself as a cornerstone of India’s sustainable urban transport future.

This initiative is clearly designed to make the metro more attractive than private vehicles by combining capacity expansion, convenience, and eco‑friendly last‑mile options.
