Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has achieved a significant milestone in passenger safety today with flagging-off of the First Metro Train fitted with the Anti- Drag feature for passenger operation. First-of-its-kind Safety Feature: The Anti-Drag system has been introduced on Phase-1 metro trains. It’s designed to prevent garments like sarees, shawls, or dupattas from being trapped in automatic doors. How it Works: If a garment or object gets caught, the system detects the pulling force, automatically applies brakes, stops the train, reopens the door, and resumes operations once the obstruction is cleared. Global Benchmark: This is the first implementation in India and possibly worldwide, aligned with the latest EN 14752:2025 international standard. Collaborators: Developed jointly by CMRL, Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies India Pvt Ltd (Hosur), and Alstom Transport India Limited (Bengaluru). Rollout Plan: After flagging off the first equipped train, the feature will be progressively installed across the remaining 51 trains in Phase-1. Focus on Women’s Safety: The initiative specifically addresses risks faced by women commuters, reinforcing CMRL’s commitment to passenger safety. This is a notable innovation because it blends technology with cultural context—recognizing the everyday attire of Indian passengers and tailoring safety systems accordingly.
