One of Hong Kong’s most iconic summer traditions is set to make waves once again as the Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, organised by Hong Kong Tourism Board, return to Victoria Harbour this June, celebrating a landmark 50th anniversary with a spectacular edition. Festival Dates & Location - Runs 19 June – 1 July 2026 at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade. - The highlight races take place 27–28 June in Victoria Harbour, with over 220 elite teams from 16 countries and regions competing. 50 Years of Legacy - Originated in 1976 with just 10 teams at Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter. - Now a global sporting spectacle, part of the Asian Games, and a cultural showcase. - Rooted in fishing community rituals to dispel bad luck and pray for safety. Festival Experience - 13 days of programming: workshops, VR dragon boat paddling, live music, stage shows, and cultural heritage crafts. - Food & Drink: Dragon Boat Food Lane with festive dishes, plus a harbourfront Beer Garden offering complimentary beer and iced rice dumplings. - Visuals: A 22‑meter dragon boat display and themed photo spots add to the carnival atmosphere. Citywide Celebrations - Beyond Victoria Harbour, local races and traditions continue in Stanley, Aberdeen, Sai Kung, Sha Tin, and the Tai O Dragon Boat Water Parade (recognized as national intangible cultural heritage).
