Nitu Samra has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer on an interim basis, until the Board of Directors can conclude a formal selection process. Reason: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) requires airport CEOs in India to be Indian nationals. New Appointment: Nitu Samra, CFO since October 2021, has been named interim CEO. She has overseen financial stewardship, governance, and strategic planning during the airport’s development. Transition: Christoph Schnellmann, CEO since 2020, moves to the Board of Directors as Executive Vice Chairman, continuing to support the project’s operational transition. Chairman’s Statement: Daniel Bircher emphasized that this change ensures compliance while maintaining continuity, especially after the airport’s inauguration in March 2026. Airport Vision: NIA aims to be a modern aviation hub for the greater Delhi region and Western Uttar Pradesh, with a strong focus on sustainability and a long-term plan to expand capacity from 12 million to over 70 million passengers annually.
