Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has reported a record 1.01 crore passengers in March 2026, highlighting the system’s growing role as a safe, efficient, and reliable travel partner for the city. Passenger Highlights - Total ridership: 10,197,604 passengers (01–31 March 2026). - Peak day: 13 March 2026, with 390,306 passengers — the highest single-day flow of the month. Ticketing Breakdown - NCMC Singara Chennai Card: 52,90,363 passengers - Single journey Paper QR/Token: 19,19,053 - ONDC: 12,71,008 - Paytm: 3,35,352 - WhatsApp (+91-8300086000): 4,72,773 - PhonePe: 2,41,012 - CMRL Mobile App: 71,123 - Chennai One App: 2,00,717 - Event QR (Hip Hop Tamizha Concert): 13,185 - Other services (Travel Card, Static QR, Online QR) contributed smaller but steady volumes. Passenger Benefits CMRL continues to incentivize digital adoption by offering a 20% discount on NCMC Card and digital QR tickets purchased via WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe, and the CMRL Mobile App. Paper QR tickets bought at counters are excluded from this discount. This performance underscores how digital ticketing and smart cards are driving adoption, with the Singara Chennai Card alone accounting for over half of March’s ridership.
