The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has announced a marquee acquisition in Coorg, Karnataka, marking its entry into immersive, nature‑led luxury hospitality.

Property details:
The resort, to be unveiled as The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary, features 71 all‑villa accommodations across 76 acres of lush landscape near Madikeri, surrounded by coffee and spice plantations.

Nature & wellness focus:
Anchored in wellness and sustainability, the IGBC Platinum‑certified resort integrates contemporary architecture with local craftsmanship. A 27,000 sq. ft. wellness centre will offer Ayurvedic traditions, modern recovery science, and Aujasya by The Leela.

Unique features:
- A tranquil 7‑acre lake at the heart of the sanctuary.
- A private helipad for seamless access.
- A four‑bedroom presidential villa with private pool and integrated wellness facilities.

Culinary experiences:
Four dining venues, including bean‑to‑cup coffee experiences inspired by Coorg’s plantation heritage.

Expansion strategy:
This acquisition coincides with The Leela’s 40th anniversary and extends its portfolio to 15 properties with over 4,160 keys. The brand plans to expand to 24 properties in the next three years, with upcoming destinations including Agra, Ayodhya, Bandhavgarh, Mumbai, Ranthambore, Sikkim, Srinagar, and Jaisalmer.

CEO’s perspective:
Anuraag Bhatnagar emphasized that the acquisition represents both a milestone and an evolution, offering a rare synthesis of wilderness, wellness, and Indian luxury.

This move positions The Leela as a pioneer in slow‑luxury sanctuaries, blending ecological value, cultural depth, and wellness‑anchored hospitality in one of South India’s most compelling destinations.
