Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has been operating metro train services since 2015 with a fleet of 52 four-car trains. Passenger safety, comfort, and punctuality remain CMRL’s top priorities. To ensure this, all metro trains undergo regular and planned maintenance at fixed interval Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) - Conducted once before major overhauling. - Involves complete dismantling and inspection of trains. Key processes: - Removal and examination of wheels, suspension systems, axles. - Replacement of worn-out components. - Wheel reshaping for smoother rides. - Advanced defect detection methods for axles. - Servicing of brakes, electrical systems, and air-conditioning units. - Deep cleaning of interiors/exteriors with eco-friendly materials. Safety & Certification - After reassembly, trains undergo: - Stationary tests. - Trial runs at varying speeds on test tracks and main lines. - Certified fit for passenger service only after meeting all standards. Milestone Achievement - Completion of IOH for the 52nd and final train marks the end of the scheduled overhaul cycle for the entire fleet. - Reinforces CMRL’s commitment to safe, reliable, and world-class metro services for Chennai.
