Ethiopian Airlines Marks the Groundbreaking of Bishoftu International Airport Construction

Ethiopian Airlines Group, the largest airline in Africa, is pleased to announce the official construction commencement of Bishoftu International Airport.

Groundbreaking ceremony held on January 10, 2026 in Bishoftu, Ethiopia.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, ministers, government officials, industry leaders, and Ethiopian Airlines executives.

Project Significance:
- Marks the start of construction for Bishoftu International Airport, a landmark project for Ethiopian and African aviation.
- Designed to support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by boosting trade, tourism, and connectivity.

Capacity & Timeline:
- Phase One completion by 2030 → capacity for 60 million passengers annually.
- Fully completed → capacity for 110 million passengers annually.
