The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to strengthen services on the Green Line with the deployment of 21 brand-new trains. Operational Shift: - The 17 trains currently running on the Green Line (Phase 1) will be shifted to the Purple Line. - To balance this, 21 new trains will be introduced on the Green Line. Green Line Coverage: - Runs 33.5 km from Madavara to Silk Institute. - The new trains will be added in phases to improve frequency and reduce congestion. Purple Line Coverage: - Stretches 43.49 km from Whitefield Metro Station to Challaghatta Terminal. - Will benefit from the redeployed trains, enhancing East–West connectivity. Train Supply: - Under a 2019–20 agreement, CRRC (China) and Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (Kolkata) are supplying 21 trains (126 coaches) equipped with DTG (Distance-to-Go) technology. - One prototype train (built in China) has already arrived; the remaining 20 will be manufactured in Kolkata. Prototype Deployment: - The prototype DTG-enabled train, initially meant for the Purple Line, will now be tested on the Green Line. - Trial runs are ongoing between Jalahalli and Mantri Square Sampige Road stations (11:30 pm – 3:30 am). - Clearances from RDSO, Commissioner of Railway Safety, and Railway Board are required before passenger service begins Impact - Faster operations and reduced wait times for commuters. - Better distribution of trains across both corridors. - A step toward easing congestion in Bengaluru’s rapidly growing metro network.
