Etihad Airways’ A321LR Makes a Grand Entrance in India via Kolkata

On September 24, 2025, Etihad Airways marked a major milestone by launching its next-generation Airbus A321LR on the Abu Dhabi–Kolkata route, making Kolkata the first Indian city to receive this premium narrow-body aircraft.

What’s New Onboard the A321LR
Etihad’s A321LR brings wide-body luxury to a narrow-body jet, redefining short and medium-haul travel:
First Suites: 2 private suites with sliding doors, lie-flat beds, 20" 4K screens, wireless charging, and Etihad’s signature dining
Business Class: 14 lie-flat seats in 1-1 herringbone layout, direct aisle access, window views, Armani/Casa furnishings
Economy Class: 144 ergonomic seats with 13.3" 4K touchscreens, USB charging, Bluetooth headphone pairing, and high-speed Wi-Fi

Why Kolkata?
- Strategic Gateway: Kolkata is a cultural and commercial hub, with over 135,000 passengers annually flying between the city and Abu Dhabi.
- Premium Potential: Rising demand from corporate travelers, students, and heritage tourists made it the ideal launchpad.
- Expanded Frequency: Etihad now operates 8 return flights per week on this route, all serviced by the A321LR.
