The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the doubling of the Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya railway line—a 104 km stretch—with a total investment of ₹2,192 crore. Project Highlights: - Coverage: Spans four districts in Bihar, enhancing the Indian Railways network by 104 km. - Connectivity: Links key pilgrimage and tourist spots like Rajgir (Shanti Stupa), Nalanda, and Pawapuri. - Reach: Benefits around 1,434 villages and 13.46 lakh people, including two Aspirational Districts—Gaya and Nawada. - Freight Impact: Expected to handle 26 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight including coal, cement, clinker, and fly ash. - Environmental Gains: - Saves 5 crore litres of oil annually. - Cuts 24 crore kg of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to planting 1 crore trees. Strategic Importance: - Part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aiming to boost multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency. - Will ease congestion, improve mobility, and enhance service reliability on one of the busiest railway corridors. - Supports the vision of making the region Atmanirbhar by creating employment and self-employment opportunities.
