In a profound gesture of spiritual diplomacy, the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha from the National Museum in New Delhi have traveled to Russia’s Kalmykia Republic for their First Exposition at the 3rd International Buddhist Forum in Elista, the region’s capital. Significance of the Event: - Cultural Collaboration: Organized by India’s Ministry of Culture, the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), and the National Museum. - Spiritual Unity: The relics will be enshrined at the Golden Abode of Shakyamuni Buddha, Kalmykia’s main monastery. - Delegation of Monks: A high-level group of Indian and international monks, including H.H. 43rd Sakya Trizin Rinpoche and H.E. 13th Kundeling Taktsak Rinpoche, will accompany the relics. What’s on Display: - Four Exhibitions: - Life events of the Buddha - Sacred legacy of the Shakyas from Piprahwa - Buddhist art from the National Museum - Works by Padma Shri artist Vasudev Kamath - Academic Lectures: Three special sessions exploring Buddhism in the modern era. - Tech Meets Tradition: Launch of Norbu, an AI-powered Russian-language chatbot offering insights into Buddha Dhamma. Historical Context: The relics originate from Piprahwa, identified as ancient Kapilavastu, the capital of the Shakya clan. Discovered in 1898 and later excavated by ASI, these relics are among the most revered Buddhist treasures. Strengthening Ties: Two MoUs will be signed—one between Buddhist organizations in Russia and India, and another with Nalanda University—fostering deeper spiritual and academic connections. This exposition not only honors the teachings of the Buddha but also reinforces India’s role as a custodian of global Buddhist heritage.
