The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) celebrated the 9th anniversary of the UDAN scheme (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) on October 21, 2025, marking nearly a decade of transformative regional air connectivity in India. UDAN Milestones - Launch Date: October 21, 2016, under the National Civil Aviation Policy - First Flight: April 27, 2017, from Shimla to Delhi, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Achievements: - 649 routes operationalized - 93 unserved and underserved airports connected - Includes 15 heliports and 2 water aerodromes - Over 1.56 crore passengers served through 3.23 lakh flights Anniversary Celebration Highlights - Held in New Delhi, chaired by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha - Attended by senior officials from MoCA and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) - Emphasis on UDAN’s role as a catalyst for inclusive air travel, especially for Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities Future Plans - UDAN will be extended beyond 2027 under an Expanded UDAN framework - Focus on connectivity to hilly, North-Eastern, and aspirational regions - Development of around 120 new destinations
