India has been re-elected to Part II of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) during the 42nd ICAO Assembly held in Montreal on 27 September 2025. This marks a continued presence on the Council for 81 consecutive years, reaffirming India’s pivotal role in shaping global aviation policy. What Part II Represents: Part II includes countries that make the largest contributions to international civil air navigation facilities. India’s re-election with more votes than in 2022 reflects growing global confidence in its aviation leadership. Diplomatic & Strategic Efforts: - Reception in New Delhi: Hosted by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on 2 September 2025 to rally support. - Ministerial Outreach: Shri Rammohan Naidu held bilateral meetings in Montreal and engaged with global aviation stakeholders. - MEA’s Role: The Ministry of External Affairs actively supported the campaign through diplomatic channels. India’s Commitments for 2025–2028: - Strengthening aviation safety, security, and sustainability - Promoting equitable air connectivity - Advancing technology and innovation - Supporting ICAO’s No Country Left Behind initiative Why It Matters: As one of the fastest-growing aviation markets, India is attracting global interest in areas like aircraft component manufacturing, MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul), and skill development. This re-election not only cements India’s influence in ICAO but also aligns with its broader ambitions to lead in aviation innovation and infrastructure.
